Google Desktop Search

Posted by Lee Odden on Oct 14th, 2004 in Online Marketing |

Google Desktop SearchToday Google launched it’s desktop search tool. Very much like the tool offered by Blinkx, except its from Google! Maybe Google is not working on a browser and it was the desktop search all along. I’ve downloaded it and it’s going through about an hour indexing process right now. After I try it out for a while, I’ll post again on how it works. From Search Engine Lowdown.

  1. I dislike it.

I dont want something indexing all my documents, something about it just irks me. I wonder what Google’s motive is. I was tolerant to their Gmail ads, but now a desktop search…. hm, no, too far.

  2. The motive is that Google is responding to a market need. Computer hard drives are getting bigger and more and more data is being stored on them. Google’s search technology can sort through millions an millions of web pages, it can sort through a few hundred thousand files on a local machine just as well.

Privacy may or may not be an issue. But like anything, if you don’t like it, don’t use it.
