Today Adobe made public their intentions to buy Macromedia. This is a huge deal as Adobe and Macromedia have been competitors for years and make similar products. It is uncertain what will happen with the current Macromedia applications, however I hope Adobe does not just kill them off. Some have to go though. GoLive and Dreamweaver are very similar along with Freehand and Illustrator. Photoshop and Fireworks are different, however it’s uncertain if Adobe will see them that way. The only application we don’t have to worry about is Flash. Macromedia Flash overtook Adobe LiveMotion a few years back so that is one program Adobe will get that it doesn’t currently sell.
