The Search Engine Marketing Kit

Comments | Posted by Lee Odden on Jun 2nd, 2005 in Online Marketing

Anyone in the SEO industry has most likely heard of the new search engine marketing book by search marketing veteran, Dan Thies of SEO Research Labs. However there’s a lot of newbies out there and search marketing is growing fast.

I’ve had a loooong time to review the book and here are my thoughts:

Published through SitePoint books, this comprehensive 300 page book and accompanying CD offer a wealth of useful information to both newcomers and seasoned search engine marketing professionals.

The book covers the gamut of topics for marketing through search engines including:

  • Understanding how search engines work
  • Basic and advanced SEO
  • Search engine friendly web design
  • Pay per click and paid inclusion

The book also provides insight into running a SEO business and includes interviews with well known names in the business including Jill Whalen and Andy Beal, tools and resources. On top of all this, the kit also comes with a CD that includes search engine business documents including sample proposals, worksheets, agreements, etc.

There’s a lot of great information in this book and I certainly would have benefited from something like this in 2001 when TopRank was founded. Particularly the SEO/SEM business operations information. What makes me second guess Dan’s business judgement is the cost of the Search Engine Marketing Kit is practically free.

It’s $197 but right now shipping is free and you get $150 in advertising credits on new accounts with Google, Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture) and FindWhat.

This is a no-brainer.

Wait, I’m in the SEO business! Don’t get this book. Really, what do you want with SEO anyway, right? It’s just a fad. Yeah, that’s it. A fad. Nah, you don’t want to order. Go post to your blog or something. ;)

Side note: Congrats Ed on the editing!
