Pre Conference – Search Engine Strategies San Jose

Comments | Posted by Lee Odden on Aug 8th, 2005 in Online Marketing

The San Jose Search Engine Strategies conference begins today and this SES conference promises to be the largest ever.

Two of the sessions I’ll be covering today include:

Search Algorithms: The Patent Files:
Patents released by major search engines aren’t a blueprint for exactly how they find and rank web pages. However, they do offer interesting clues about how things might be done. This session looks at key patents and ponders what might actually be in use and how marketers might best act on released information.

Searcher Behavior Research Update:
How do searchers interact with search engines? New research is constantly coming out revealing how searchers act. This session explores the latest research and provides tips and tactics for search marketers to consider.

After the conference there are several activities events planned including:

SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization) meeting for members. Unfortunately, this event conflicts with Yahoo’s but as a SEMPO member I will definitely be attending at least part of this meeting.

Yahoo has declared Monday, August 8th the official Search Night Off and is celebrating with a huge event at Paramount’s Great America where there will be cocktails, a bbq and full access to the amusement park. (I wish I was a kid for that part)

After that, Ask Jeeves is hosting an event featuring the Dan Band, which you may have seen in the movies Old School or Starsky and Hutch. Ask Jeeves is also unveiling a new creation called “Virtual Neptune”.

It all promises to be very educational and a terrific opportunity to stay on top of what’s happening in the search engine marketing industry.
