Rand ... Lee ... your blogs come first. ;-)

I am about to probably spend couple of hours on that Web 2.0 awards page. I am sure it took a lot of work to do it. By the way ... the design also looks good.

Hey Joe, (I've heard that somewhere before...)

It's pretty easy to see a ton of work went into the Web 2.0 Awards project. Doing product/service reviews is not for the faint of heart. Plus coordinating and conducting interesting interviews is a lot more involved than most people think.

Are the Web Awards super-linkable? You bet! It's also an impressive feat considering SEOMoz also has paying customers to serve.

The thing is, it's also consistent with the kind of work Rand and his team have always done. SEOMoz plays on a whole different level than most sites. If/when we get ours to look half as good I'll be a happy camper.

We put a lot of work into the research - almost 3 full months. Our decisions were based on a lot of factors - the usefulness, usability, design, social aspects and content quality.

While it's certainly fine to disagree with our choices (that's one of the best things you can do!), it's unfair to say that we didn't put work into it. Not only did we dig up the sites, narrow it down from 700 to 300 and then find our favorites, we spent real time on every site, actually using and working with them. We've even interviewed and talked to the founders of the winning sites - this is not just some fluff piece.

I'm probably just prickly because we've all been working so hard on this. Matt spent a few days on making the site look nice, but Kat and the rest of the team put in 50X that work in the research side.

Seomoz has a pretty list, but I wonder if they did not spend more effort in design and layout as opposed to researching the winners. For example, Bookmarking winner blummy.com? I guess I am not with it, because I never heard of them and the runner-ups Furl and Spurl do not even come close to BlinkList. Check out this link http://www.econsultant.com/web2/ for Web 2.0 candidates or this link for a shorter list http://www.sacredcowdung.com/archives/2006/03/all_things_web.html
I think you were right Lee, when you called this link bate and not an authoritative resource. It still looks great.
