A blog is one if the easiest ways to add SEO friendly content to a site and attracting natural links via a link bait promo is very effective. I was more referencing ideas/strategy like introducing huge numbers of pages of content: "Control content costs and make boatloads of average content." Most regular business sites aren't in a position to do that sort of thing. Although, many would argue that the content found on most regular business sites is best characterized as "average".
