TopRank Marketing drives results with content, influencer, SEO & social media marketing.

October is by far my favorite month here in Minnesota, and unfortunately I have to leave it for a couple of days. However, the time will be well worth it as I will be representing TopRank’s Online Marketing Blog by blogging the SMX Social Media conference in New York City on October 16th and 17th.

Being in the thick of marketing and promoting web sites using social media my entire time at TopRank has given me a sincere appreciation for those who have achieved real expertise with results to back it up. With Danny Sullivan’s SMX conference, the interactivity of it all and getting to know others with similar interests who may actually be able to add value to my own knowledge is something I am looking forward to.

The plan is to arrive in NYC around 8:30pm providing there are no delays. Lee says JFK is the late plane capital of the world.  After getting checked in to the hotel I hope to be able to attend the IMNY and Best of the Web benefit event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It sounds like a great time and it’s certainly a wonderful cause.

Looking over the agenda for Day 1 of SMX Social Media, I know I will be in social media heaven.  From “Social Media Marketing Essentials” to “A Marketer’s Guide to Social Bookmarking and Tagging”, I will be listening to presentations on these hot topics as well as those sessions on marketing with social news sites and creating linkbait.

Day 2 begins with a session on how to effectively leverage social networking – such as making the most of Facebook and MySpace. Being an effective social networker takes time and effort.  I will be curious to hear how others are best managing both.  Another session I will be attending is “Micro Communities Session” where Liana Evans and Rand Fishkin are to showcase some of the smaller social networks where some of the most dedicated and active members can be found.

18 hours after I get back to Minneapolis from New York, I will be off again to London for a family vacation so I have a very busy 2 weeks ahead of me.  But I will be at SMX during part 1 of my travels, which means I will have more than enough energy to ”pump up the social media” with blog posts, photos and maybe some video. See you there!
