Good point Lee. You know, we have all this technology at our disposal, but marketing always seems to come down to the basics: What are the informational needs of customers and how do I, as a brand, solve those needs? Through great and valuable content. That's how the majority of products are being sold today, especially on the b2b side.

I'm seeing more and more SEO/SEM specialists start to talk a bit about the process, not just say, "Hey, you have to create content." Everyone knows that content is core to the marketing strategy, but can a brand create content that solves key customer challenges and creates a behavior change? Now that is the holy grail.

You bet Joe - and thank you for drawing attention to the importance of content as a marketing/retention strategy. The best marketing is a quality product and service, and what better way to do deliver that online than through quality content?

Dave, You bring up a good point. There are a lot of SEOs who pay lip service to social media as a subset of services, but all they really do is submit/vote on social news and bookmarking sites. Most of the SMM bloggers are no different.

At the same time, there are several popular/opinionated social media bloggers who don't "advertise" that they provide consulting, but I know that they do on a personal basis.

The whole viral/buzz marketing thing using social media platforms, communities and technology seems like a natural extension of SEO - one I'm certainly comfortable working in for the long term.

SEO-only consultants will always have lots of work to do as long as web designers/developers keep ignoring or not told to pay attention to the search engines as an audience.

Cheers!

Perhaps it is like a cliche, but in the USA you are still ahead regarding to SEO. So this list is very welcome... I should make some time and try to make a Dutch one or Dutchies that write in English, to see all the differences.

Gee, thanks for the kind words. While I appreciate the 'social marketer' tag, it's not much more than passing interest still and I don't generally provide the services- still a search geek at heart... makes me wonder about how many SMM Bloggers actually do? I know a few of the 'cool kids' in the medium that don't actually provide said services professionally... is an interesting convo...hmmmm... ( time for a Poll?)

Keep up the great work - I am sure to still be around Sphinning my wheels and we should Stumble upon each others de.lico.us posts real soon :0)
