I noticed that building relationships and listening to consumers, whether overtly or insinuated, was mentioned over and over again throughout the interview. If companies can get the listening part down, their job will be infinitely easier and more effective. In order to build any kind of relationship with consumers, you must listen to them first.

A lot of the time it is difficult for small and medium businesses to do this themselves, which is why we have started a buzz marketing company to help them. There are so many conversations going on online; everyone should be able to get involved.

Thank you for sharing such an insightful interview. The highlight for me was hearing how these companies adapted their marketing practices to social instead of trying to make social media work within the confines of their current marketing agendas.

I was also glad to hear Lindsay Lebresco stress listening as a fundamental foundation to any social media "strategy".

Companies large or small looking to jump into the social media pool should read this interview. There is a cornerstone of information here that is invaluable.

It's an interesting look to see how national brand name companies are handling social media and outreach. Each of you have to go beyond what small businesses do and contend with legal departments and making the ROI clear to your managers and marketing departments.

I'm sure that makes your jobs a lot harder than my own which as a social media evangelist for a smaller company is a bit different.

I think that your advice re: strategies is extremely valuable. Starting with who your customers are and building a strategy around them supports participation. Doing something that ignores their needs and desires completely will leave you with an empty space.

Thanks Lee for such a great interview.

This was a great post. I really liked the different perspectives on social media. It is interesting to hear how other companies and people use it to help their business.
