This is 5* information. Thanks Dag for the ROI spreadsheet. Online Mktg is a recent priority in my company and management ir clearly looking for ROI metrics (specially for Social Media since it is the most controverse one in terms of perceived value for top management).

Many great tips here. The exciting and sometimes challenging part of social media marketing and interactive marketing is that it changes weekly or sometimes even daily. Having a company that stays on top of emerging trends but also mastering the traditional ways can be tough, that is why I usually recommend small-medium size businesses to outsource always for this.

IMHO, paying someone else to pretend to be a blogger isn't right. Social Media dictates transparency and honesty from businesses. I think it would be OK, though, if the paid blogger is public about who they are and why they're publishing posts about the company the work for.

Someday I hope to bring you all a perspective from a different angle - Geek-to-Geek communication via social media. I'm in an interesting high-tech industry where B2C and B2B aren't really that applicable. Yet, social media will play an important role. That's what my colleagues and I are going to figure out.

I'm interested in people's perspectives on using personas (ie. paid bloggers) to read feeds and submit posts about your company or product and the pros and cons of that approach, vs. handling directly by a member of your actual team. There are resource implications of course, of handling internally, depending on the level of activity. Other than that, what is the latest word on the best approach? Thanks.

I completely agree with the need for Social Media and New Media, but the point of this article is all about Advertisement and Marketing. It doesnt speak of PR, Public Relations. This is the key to having a successful Marketing and Advertisement in place.

If a company or a persons PR is not in, and by in I mean has a good PR campaign and thought well of, then all the advertisement and marketing in the world will do nothing.

I am thrilled to my bones about the prospect of speaking with customers instead of talking AT them. This one to one conversation is LONG overdue. The seven points that Charlene Li made are spot on. Saw here speak at #ims09 and loved her.

Thank you for such a wonderful article... such insight from all across the board - someone from each area of business it seems. We have a small Marketing and Management Firm that is such starting to dive into the social scene ourselves and helping our customers (we are small so we have only a couple at the present time) - they are excited to learn about social media and we are teaching and learning along the way. Thanks for the mini educational course from all your contributors. I look forward to reading more from you soon.
Have a great day.

Awesome work, Lee. Thank you for putting together incredibly informative and perceptive articles like this. It's not just who's answering the questions, but the questions being asked are uniquely targeted to the respondent. Great job!
