I’m trying to think if there is anything to add to this list, but I think you covered it! The ones that I think most companies overlook are brand/reputation management and public relations. It’s crazy how many good brands don’t manage this effectively.

This a fantastic list of SEO benefits for a company. Most of them are actually hidden benefits. Since most companies only measure direct ROI. Like I paid X for SEO and y is what I got in revenue/profit.

While the reality of the value of the SEO is – and you nicely list it above – much greater.

Yes indeed, thank you Mikkel. It’s ironic that I left investors out because we’ve been engaged by startups in the past to employ SEO as part of an online public relations program to raise visibility and the perceived value of the company for potential investors. Thank you for the suggestion!

I work (by day) for a pest control company here in the northeast and we employ an SEO/Social Media guru. He focused on SEO and Social Media (Twitter) for one of our marketing campaigns during the summer and it proved to be a great ROI for us. Even our business has felt the tough economic times (in the past we have been resistant) and his efforts helped generate numerous sales for us. I cannot forget to mention the connections he made with other pest control companies that we now use as resources for a variety of needs.

Nice article, well written.

I would also add that SEO is generally a lot cheaper and has a better ROI than traditional advertising.

Also with SEO it is also much easier to measure the success of the advertising campaign, compared to TV advertising and radio advertising, which if you wanted to know the statical uptake of your ad, will cost more money! with SEO very simple things like using web analytics and setting up conversion rates can quickly help you measure the success of your campaign.

Lee, Interesting article. Nice to see a smooth transition from SEO 1999 (content and links) to Social SEO. Many SEO’s won’t see they missed the parade until it’s off mainstreet and heading home. IMO, SEO’s strength is in discovering good measurement metrics because we’ve walked the knowledge path to ROI measurement before. Seeing a benefit and quantifying it. IMO, the topic of your post is important for Social to move forward and SEO to remain pertinent.
