Shoemoney Interviews Brian Axe of Google AdSense

Posted by Lee Odden on Jan 31st, 2007 in AdSense, Google, Interviews, Online Marketing |

On Jeremy’s show tonight over at WebmasterRadio.FM, “Net Income”, he and Andrea interview Brian Axe, AdSense Product Manager. It’s a great show that starts out with quite a few clarifications of Google AdSense changes in terms of service ranging from not displaying images next to ads to the review and reinclusion process. Too many for me to list here, so be sure to listen to the full podcast.

A few notes from Jeremey:

  • Google is not against arbitrageurs but rather respect it as a business model.
  • Confirmation that not only is YouTube doing revenue sharing but it will be apart of AdSense.

Google Please be Consistent

Posted by Lee Odden on Nov 11th, 2006 in AdSense, Google, Online Marketing |

On my way to login to a neglected Google AdSense account today, I was presented with this screen:

adsense-down.gif

A quick check of the AdSense Blog showed that this was 4 hours of planned maintenance.

Note to Google:¬† Maybe you could use the same language on the “system is down” page as you do on the blog? It might be more helpful to users. :)

Monetize Your Google Pages

Posted by Lee Odden on Aug 1st, 2006 in AdSense, Google, Online Marketing, Search Industry News |

Google’s David Jones posted on the Inside AdSense blog that you can now add AdSense to your Google Page Creator site(s). When Google Pages came out, I tested it and added a few pages of “Search Marketing 101” content and haven’t really played with it since then. Being able to add AdSense is an incentive, but a blog just makes more “sense”, at least to me. (Pun intended)¬† But for others who are not used to the whole “blogging thing” Google Page Creator is pretty easy to use and might be a better fit.

Site Targeting

Posted by Lee Odden on Jul 16th, 2006 in AdSense, AdWords, Google, Online Marketing, Search Industry News |

Google Blogscoped posts an interesting explanation of the browse sites to target feature on Google AdWords that Inside AdWords announced on Friday. It provides categories of sites with an idea of the number of impressions each site gets per day. Besides  browsing sites by category, you can also target sites by describing the topic, list URLs to check for availability or similar sites.

You can also target a campaign by demographics such as income, gender or ethnicity based on comScore data.  I am curious if there are any head to head comparisons of MSN AdCenter demographic targeting and Google.

Google Advertising Tools

Posted by Lee Odden on Feb 10th, 2006 in AdSense, AdWords, Google, Pay Per Click, SEO |

Google Advertising ToolsI just received a review copy of the new book, Google Advertising Tools: Cashing in with Adsense, AdWords and the Google APIs by Harold Davis, author of 20 books, (Googleplex Blog) and published by O’Reilly. Companion site here.

Chapters range from SEO and affiliate programs to “Profiting from Adult Sites” (hmmm) and of course whole sections on Adsense and AdWords.

It’s a bit techie, but I’ve not had a chance to go through it fully. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to post a review here when I get around to finally reading it. If you’ve already read it, feel free to post comments.
