That link will take you to the full list as well as the voting results.</p>
<p>The purpose was to create awareness of UK centric blogs that share as much of a passion for Online Marketing topics as we do here at Online Marketing Blog. 35 blogs were listed and many put effort into promoting themselves via blog post, Twitter, email, Facebook and other channels of communication.  That combined promotion effort plus our own drove thousands of visits to the post and subsequently back out to the individual UK Online Marketing blogs that were listed.</p>
<p>After reviewing each blog&#8217;s poll votes, AdAge Power 150 scores (combination of editorial, links, social &amp; traffic), PageRank of home page, post recency, frequency, topics, comments and design, I&#8217;ve made the following picks as my top 5. Let me be clear, picking only 5 sucked.</p>

<strong><a href="http://econsultancy.com/us/blog" target="_blank"> Econsultancy</a> </strong>- This industry news blog covers a variety of online marketing topics with a very high number of posts, great mix of writers and somewhat inconsistent use of images. At first I was not sure what to call this blog since the Title tag says &#8220;Online Marketing Blog&#8221; and &#8220;Internet Marketing Blog&#8221; but the on-page title says &#8220;Digital Marketing Blog&#8221;. Econsultancy was one of the first blogs to incorporate Twitter in the sidebar. Social sharing are presented at top of and after each post. Content is fresh and topical with a moderate amount of commenting activity on each post.</p>

<strong><a href="http://wearesocial.net" target="_blank"> we are social</a></strong> &#8211; For an agency blog, posts are information rich, with particular effectiveness at repurposing of content (stats, infographics, YouTube). Multiple offsite social integrations ranging from Twitter to Facebook to Flickr add the social to this blog. Commenting activity is below average for a blog with so much social connectivity. I haven&#8217;t seen a mybloglog widget in a very long time. As the name implies, content is focused on social media marketing as well as advertising and applications like Facbeook and Twitter.</p>

<strong><a href="http://www.distilled.co.uk/blog/" target="_blank"> Distilled</a></strong> &#8211; This search marketing focused agency blog features robust content, few commenters and a modest amount of social sharing and features. Topics of focus include SEO, PPC, reputation management and web design.</p>
<p><a title="David Naylor by toprankonlinemarketing, on Flickr" href="http://www.davidnaylor.co.uk/blog"><img style="border: 1px solid black;" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5013/5446161198_e985e6afe2.jpg" alt="David Naylor" width="500" height="392" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.davidnaylor.co.uk/blog" target="_blank"> David Naylor </a>- This SEO centric blog easily has the best design. Posts are written by Bronco agency staff and Dave Naylor. Social sharing links are included with each post and top level social links are part of the side navigation. Most posts have around 10 comments or more showing great on-site engagement.</p>
<p><a title="Blogstorm by toprankonlinemarketing, on Flickr" href="http://www.blogstorm.co.uk"><img style="border: 1px solid black;" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5255/5445559551_ebeaaa2392.jpg" alt="Blogstorm" width="500" height="388" /></a><br />
<strong><a href="http://www.blogstorm.co.uk" target="_blank"> Blogstorm</a></strong> &#8211; Posts are concise and not all that frequent, however, comments are high. All posts are written by Patrick Altoft, Director of Search at Branded3. Social features are limited to a Retweet button on each post.  This blog has nearly 10k subscribers and a fair amount of ReTweet activity.</p>
<p>Some of these blogs post very frequently with snack sized posts and very few comments. Others offer several posts per week that do a deep dive into advice, inspiring many comments. Others offer a great design and balanced content with social features. Still others offer robust, niche content with very little social sharing or integration features.  The notion of &#8220;best blog&#8221; really comes down to what you&#8217;re looking for and what type of content resonates with you most.  Blogs like <a href="http://www.seowizz.net" target="_blank">SEO Wizz</a> and <a href="http://seogadget.co.uk/" target="_blank">SEO Gadget</a> are very focused on SEO and if that was your focus of interest, then they will undoubtedly fit the bill.</p>
<p>If you subscribe to all 35 blogs on our <a href="http://www.toprankblog.com/2011/02/uk-internet-marketing-blogs-2011/">initial list</a> and then filter about 10 or 15 out from that, you&#8217;d be in great shape. Don&#8217;t forget to add <a href="http://www.freshnetworks.com/blog/" target="_blank">Fresh Networks</a> too, because unfortunately we did.  Also be sure to visit the BIGLIST of 400+ <a href="http://www.toprankblog.com/search-marketing-blogs/">SEM blogs</a>.</p>

<p>A while back I created a <a title="SEO Blogs" href="http://www.toprankblog.com/search-marketing-blogs/">list of SEO blogs</a> and continued to review and add a handful of blogs every week for about 2 years. I use &#8220;SEO&#8221; somewhat loosely, since most search marketers are adept at a variety of online marketing tactics including social, PPC, email and content.</p>
<p>With a trip to London coming up soon and plenty of great online marketing advice being published by UK internet marketing bloggers, what better time than now to offer a BIGLIST update focused on UK marketing blogs?</p>
<p>To make it interesting, I&#8217;ve compiled an initial list of 35 internet marketing blogs for you to choose from. There are links to all at the bottom of the post. Now vote!</p>

<p>What are the best Search Engine Marketing blogs to follow? Which are the most popular?  The chart above from <a href="http://www.feedcompare.com" target="_blank">Feed Compare</a> shows a comparison of the RSS feed subscriber counts published by Feedburner for: <strong>Google Webmaster Central</strong> <span style="color: #800000;">(red</span>), <strong>Search Engine Land</strong> (<span style="color: #0000ff;">blue</span>), <strong>Search Engine Watch</strong> (<span style="color: #008000;">gree</span><span style="color: #008000;">n</span>) and our very own <strong>Online Marketing Blog</strong> (<span style="color: #800080;">purple</span>).</p>
<p>As evidence of how successful a well executed business blog can be, TopRank&#8217;s Blog has about as many RSS subscribers as top industry publication Search Engine Watch (37,517/37,028). It&#8217;s a great position for an agency to have that kind of reach and also to be able to bring first hand, successful business blogging expertise to our consulting clients.</p>
<p>Blogs covering the search engine marketing industry, including our own <a href="http://www.toprankblog.com" target="_blank">Online Marketing Blog</a>, started popping up around 2003 and we&#8217;ve been covering SEM blogs pretty well with our BIGLIST of SEO Blogs for the past 3 years or so. One of the dimensions worth considering when deciding which blogs to subscribe to is the social proof of how many others have subscribed to a particular blog. There are other factors at play obviously, like topic, writing style, frequency and level of engagement by other readers, but SEM blogs have been around long enough for the good ones to attract a noticeable following.</p>
<p>Below is a list of blogs that cover <a title="search engine marketing services" href="http://www.toprankmarketing.com/search-engine-optimization/">Search Engine Marketing</a> topics ranked according to how many RSS subscribers they have as of August 6th, 2010. It&#8217;s important to note that not all blogs run their feeds through Feedburner, nor do all blogs that run their feeds through Feedbuner enable the Feedcount option which makes the chicklet counters below possible. That said, it&#8217;s a pretty good list. <p>Obviously there are many other blogs writing about search marketing like <a href="http://www.seobook.com/blog/" target="_blank">SEOBook</a> and some might even have over 22k RSS subscribers, but they&#8217;re not pushing their RSS through Feedburner and/or not enabling the Feedcount feature. Therefore, those blogs are not on this list.  I will note that the Search Engine Roundtable blog publishes more than one feed as do a few other blogs, but we&#8217;re picking the most popular feed for the purpose of this list and that&#8217;s the only one being counted.</p>
<p>One of the interesting things about this mix of blogs is the variance in their designs. It&#8217;s obvious that some blogs are doing a great job of slimming down their pages of images to increase page speed, which we&#8217;ve obviously completely ignored with posts like the one above. The addition of certain social sharing buttons is also more explicit on most blogs.</p>
<p>When looking for great resources to learn more about Search Engine Marketing, should you always go with the most popular blogs? Of course not. There are plenty of newer blogs putting out useful information.  A mix of tenured blogs plus an effort to discover a few new blogs always makes sense in my book. That&#8217;s how I started the <a title="SEO blogs" href="http://www.toprankblog.com/search-marketing-blogs/" target="_blank">BIGLIST of SEO blogs</a>, by reviewing new blogs to see what else was out there.</p>

Besides offering a consistent post format with images and template, Mark blogs a lot of how-to and tips posts along with a much better than average effort at being truly useful. Great design plus great content = a blog worth subscribing to.</p>
<p><a href="http://maileohye.com" target="_blank"><strong>Maile Ohye: Love &amp; Technology</strong></a> &#8211; A smart sense of humor and informal insights into various Google and webmaster topics makes this personal blog by Google employee Maile Ohye worth a BIGLIST inclusion.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.agent-seo.com" target="_blank"><strong>AgentSEO Blog</strong></a> &#8211; Written by Jacob Stoops, this web site/blog provides personal entries on SEO with a side of SEO and plenty of SEO after that. Actually, the AgentSEO blog contains a very smart structure of content including video, useful resources, smooth display of Twitter, RSS options and Facebook plus an obvious but not offensive call to action. The bottom navigation is very different than most blogs and so far, that seems like a good thing.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.epiphanysolutions.co.uk/blog/" target="_blank"><strong>Epiphany Digital Marketing Blog</strong></a> &#8211; This UK agency offers a mix of internet marketing posts from agency staffers on search, social and industry topics.  Many of the posts go into detail about insights, testing and general observations from solving digital marketing problems.</p>

Corbett relates his experiences with past projects and growing an audience for Think Traffic to the benefit of readers.  This very new blog offers practical tips and is well designed enough to get our top listing for this week&#8217;s review.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.bryaneisenberg.com" target="_blank"><strong>Bryan &amp; Jeffrey Eisenberg</strong></a> &#8211; Best selling author of multiple books, Bryan Eisenberg begged me for months to add his new blog to the BIGLIST. I challenged Bryan to write another best selling book, start a new company, become a keynote speaker at several popular industry conferences and lose at least 30 pounds. (Hey, we set the bar high for the BIGLIST).  Of course, I&#8217;m kidding about the challenge (and the begging). The SEO blog design recognition for this week&#8217;s <a href="http://twitter.com/biglist" target="_blank">BIGLIST</a> update goes to a newer blog from an experienced search marketer:  <a href="http://www.seomofo.com" target="_blank">SEO Mofo</a>. I like the clean, yet colorful (and irreverent) design of this blog by Darren Slatten, self proclaimed &#8220;world&#8217;s greatest SEO&#8221;.  Darren has a sense of humor, SEO and blog smarts and according to his bio, no social life.  That should mean some entertaining and useful blog posts &#8211; at least from what I&#8217;ve seen so far.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gordonchoi.com/" target="_blank">Gordon Choi&#8217;s PPC Blog</a> &#8211; If you need to know about Google AdWords, Baidu or any Chinese internet marketing and PPC topics, this is the blog to read (in English). Gordon&#8217;s been blogging since 2006 and has covered a variety of SEO and SEM topics and has assembled his own list of SEM Blogs.</p>
<p><a href="http://blog.efrontier.com/" target="_blank">Efficient Frontier Insights</a> -For a large agency that has been providing SEM services since 2002 to have a blog less than a year old in 2010 might seem off, but as the name implies, you&#8217;ll find plenty of insights and best practices  on search marketing here with posts written by a mix of agency staff.</p>
<p><a href="http://rainblog.clickrain.com/" target="_blank">ClickRain Blog</a> &#8211; Based in Sioux Falls, Paul Ten Haken blogs about his agency, online marketing tips/how to&#8217;s and personal observations. There isn&#8217;t a slant towards SEO tactics dujour or limited to agency chest beating, you get a mix of everything which is good for an agency blog.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.sixthmanmarketing.com/blog" target="_blank">Sixth Man Marketing Blog</a> &#8211;  Working out of Spokane, Ed Reese blogs on a variety of search marketing topics, industry/events and about his own consulting experiences. But his focus is mostly on local search.</p>
<p><a href="http://seobullshit.com/" target="_blank">SEO Bull$#*t</a> &#8211; Catches your attention doesn&#8217;t it?  If you&#8217;re not really into SEO, sarcastic humor or expletives, then this blog isn&#8217;t for you. Expect an ongoing rant about SEO topics from SEO smarties like theGypsy and Sebastian as well as a promise to &#8220;tread the fine line between personal expression and just being a %&amp;#$  !@*&amp;#%&#8221;.</p>
<p>Certainly it should go without saying that blogs that are recognized on the BIGLIST should share the good news. This is the social web after all, so get your<a href="http://www.toprankblog.com/badges/" target="_blank"> BIGLIST badge</a> here and shine it up.</p>

<p>Welcome to a new BIGLIST review of <a href="http://www.toprankblog.com/search-marketing-blogs/">SEO blogs</a>. While it&#8217;s by no means a requirement for blogs to post daily or even every week to provide useful content to readers, it does take at least 1 post every 2 weeks to be included in the BIGLIST. We&#8217;re seeing a shift with many blogs to posting less frequently and yet most of those bloggers are active on Twitter or Facebook. Is there a connection? Are Twitter and Facebook reducing the frequency of blogging overall in the Search and Social Media Marketing industry?</p>
<p>Take a look at the new crop of blogs in this BIGLIST update and you can be the judge.</p>

<p>The blog that gets our design recognition is <strong><a href="http://www.dirjournal.com/articles/" target="_blank">Directory Journal</a></strong> &#8211; This nicely designed, Internet marketing, social media and SEO blog is part of a network of blogs attached to directories. The posts cover a range of SEO topics but posts are unsigned but I suspect they are written by the site owner, Hasan Saleem.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.targetmarketingmag.com/channel/seo-content-marketing-revue" target="_blank"><strong>SEO &amp; Content Marketing Revue</strong></a> &#8211; Do I even need to introduce Heather Lloyd-Martin? Maybe not Heather, but certainly this new blogging gig she&#8217;s landed with Target Marketing Magazine where&#8217;s just started writing about, what else, content and SEO.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.justinfreidmedia.com/blog/" target="_blank"><strong>Urban Wall</strong></a> &#8211; As Traffic and Lead Delivery Optimization Manager at Petersons.com, Justin Freid posts his personal insights and tips on SEO, PPC and Social Media on this very new blog. It appears Justin blogs in &#8220;collaboration&#8221; with Korean Clothing, CD Rates and Bank Rates. <img src='http://www.toprankblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><a href="http://www.weboptimist.com" target="_blank"><strong>SEO in The Desert</strong></a> &#8211; Richard V. Burckhardt, aka The Web Optimist works as VP of Search for FramesDirect.com and blogs out of Palm Springs, CA mostly about search engine optimization. He also accepts guest blog posts about SEO.</p>
<p><a href="http://websterjorgensen.com" target="_blank"><strong>Webster Jorgensen</strong></a> &#8211; A self proclaimed Drupal junkie, Webster works as Online Marketing Manager at Ryan Transportation in Kansas City. He&#8217;s addressed the posting frequently issue by not publishing dates on his blog posts and writes with a decidedly SEO- focused opinion on internet marketing topics.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.acronym.com/keyworddriven/" target="_blank"><strong>Keyword Driven</strong></a> &#8211; This is Acronym Media&#8217;s agency blog (55th floor of the Empire State Building) which has a variety of posts on SEO topics, tools and observations from a mix of staff. Although, with just 2 posts in December and only 1 in January, blogging isn&#8217;t a high priority at the moment.</p>
<p><strong>Honorable Mentions</strong>: These blogs offer some good content, but are not posting often enough to make it into the BIGLIST.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.websimple.com/" target="_blank">Websimple</a> &#8211; Jeremy Bencken is one of those entreprenurial SEOs who built up a few sites, sold them to a larger company, then started another venture (BuzzStream) and still does some consulting out of Austin, TX. Jeremy has very interesting things to say and even though his blog is VERY new, I mention it here thinking maybe he&#8217;ll post more often.</p>
<p><a href="http://ecommerceblog.mightymerchant.com/" target="_blank">Ecommerce Blog from MightyMerchant</a> &#8211; Michael Strears from HEROweb/MightyMerchant was on a roll blogging advice, insights, and articles focused on Ecommerce for small business owners and then in December, stop. Hopefully he hasn&#8217;t been eaten by Twitter <img src='http://www.toprankblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> .</p>
<p><strong>No decent SEO blog would be complete</strong> without a smart looking <span style="color: #800000;"><a href="http://www.toprankblog.com/badges/">BIGLIST badge</a></span>. <li><a href="http://www.martijnbeijk.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Local Search Optimization</strong></a> &#8211; Netherlands based Martijn Beijk blogs about local search optimization, Universal search, mobile, Google&#8217;s Local Business Center and location-based services.  He also reviews tools, which is handy and a definitive guide to KML and sitemaps for SEO.</li>

<li><a href="http://devbasu.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Search Marketing Insights</strong></a> &#8211; Dev Basu is another Toronto based search marketer and he promises &#8220;no BS marketing strategies for small and big biz alike&#8221;. He also writes about industry involvement such as speaking at conferences like Search Engine Strategies.</li>

The Search Agents is the official corporate blog of The Search Agency, an integrated online marketing firm headquartered in Santa Monica, CA.</p>

Making all of one&#8217;s tweets for the day into a blog post is automatic and therefore easy for the blogger to create an entry, but the real question is whether it offers useful info to blog readers? In this case I think sometimes yes and sometimes no.</li>

<p>That honor goes to <strong>Mikkel deMib Svendsen</strong> who&#8217;s been blogging for a very long time, except it&#8217;s been mostly in Danish.</p>
<p>Recently, Mikkel decided to launch a <a href="http://blog.demib.com/" target="_blank">SEM blog in English</a>, which is great news if you know Mikkel.  At my first SES conference I recall seeing this guy in a bright red suit taking lots of photos and not sure who he was. Then after seeing him speak on a few panels quickly realized the deep search marketing knowledge he was offering.  Now you can get that insight online. This blog is a mix of both text and video SEO content, plus Mikkel has a new book on SEO you should check out.</p>
