Pubcon Session: Enterprise SEO

Enterprise SEO

The Enterprise Level SEO and SEM Issues panel included a great roundup of search marketing expertise with Andrew Gerhart, Scott Polk, Tanya Vaughan and moderation duties handled by none other than Bruce Clay.

First up was Andrew Gerhart, VP of Search for Source Interlink Enthusiast Media who asked, “Are SEO Technicques different for enterprise SEO?”, and then went on to list similarities and differences along with common problems and solutions.

Same:

  • SEO basics
  • Content focus
  • Link popularity

Different:

  • Impact of basics
  • Internal link structure

When building and optimizing a big site, it’s important to define and optimize the site structure. Think about all the ways a user wants it broken down. Design the structure to be more horizontal and avoid silos in preference of themed pyramid structures.

Friday AM Search News

According to the Bruce Clay blog, Mike Grehan has joined Bruce Clay as VP of International Business Development. Congrats to both Bruce Clay and Mike as BC gets a very high profile SEO rockstar and Mike gets to continue flying around the world doing that SEO thing.

You may also recall that last week Bill Slawski joined Commerce 360. If you’d asked Bill what he’d be doing now a year ago, working for another company probably wouldn’t be it. However, Bill’s a very smart fellow and Li along with the Commerce 360 team are very fortunate to have him.

Google has released Google Gears, which is intended to provide developers a way to create offline versions of online applications. Google Gears already works with Google Reader and Barry has a nice post illustrating that. Some speculate that this is another effort by Google to compete with Microsoft. More at SEW and the official Google Gears blog.

I’ve had a standing request for an interview with Bruce Clay for about a year now and we finally decided to just do a short one on video, which works for me and I think it will work for you as well.

Bruce Clay is one of the best known brands in the world of search marketing and if you attend Search Engine Strategies, WebmasterWorld Pubcon or ad:tech conferences, you’re sure to see him and his team on the exhibit hall and/or presenting to attendees. Thousands of people have used his SEO tools and participated in his company’s SEO training programs.

Checking out the expo hall, there are always a few great deals and lots of free iPods to sign up for. I skipped most of the iPods this year as I was a afraid of all the follow-up emails and/or sales calls.

However, here is some good swag that I did pick up.

Warming up for ad:tech Chicago

Lee Odden on Jul 23rd, 2006     adtech, Marketing PR Conferences, Online Marketing

I am sitting here in my hotel room in Chicago getting things lined up for the ad:tech conference which is to start tommorrow. As I walked through the lobby I waved hi to Bruce Clay who was chatting with Dana Todd, no doubt strategizing their session for tomorrow morning, “Organic SEO Fireside Chat with the Experts”. I am looking forward to the session and will be covering it for the ad:tech blog. Both Bruce and Dana know their stuff to say the least.

Steve Hall encouraged the bloggers covering the conference to take photos, so I brought my trusty, super slim camera for lots of candids. I haven’t used that word, “candids” since working on my high school yearbook. Hopefully the photos from ad:tech will be in focus. Sessions, crowds, tradeshow floor and maybe some after-conference photos are all in store.
