Social Media Marketing World 2015: Memorable Moments & Top Takeaways #SMMW15

Debbie Friez and Brooke Furry at Social Media Marketing World 2015

They say that the third time’s the charm. According to the word on the street (and our own opinions), Social Media Marketing World 2015 may have been the best party Michael Stelzner and his team have thrown since the conference’s inaugural event in 2013.

Three of TopRank Online Marketing’s team members – Debbie Friez, Brooke Furry, and of course Lee Odden – flew out to this year’s event in gorgeous San Diego. Hanging out in SoCal definitely makes you want to wear sandals and sit in the sun – which made us ecstatic, coming from still-snowy Minnesota.

But we didn’t completely enter vacation mode. Our goal was to make friends, increase our social know-how, and mingle with fellow marketers. Lee gave a presentation Friday afternoon entitled “Repurpose on Purpose: Personalized Content for your Target Audience,” while Debbie and Brooke live blogged and tweeted the event’s top takeaways.

Joe Pulizzi Content Marketing World 2013

Joe Pulizzi Rocking the Stage at Content Marketing World

Wow. Again!

The great thing about Content Marketing World was having been there for the first and second years’ events only to have an even better experience the third time around. Hats off to Joe Pulizzi, Pam Kozelka, Robert Rose, Joe Kalinowski, Cathy McPhillips, Michelle Linn and the entire CMI team on a fantastic conference. I’ve seen and heard nothing but glowing reviews about it.

There were so many moving parts to the success of the event from great keynotes by Jay Baer, Jonathan Lister of LinkedIn, Jonathan Mildenhall of Coca-Cola and the big one, William Shatner, who surprised everyone by having relevant marketing stories to tell.  The networking was great (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and House of Blues) and it was a pleasure to connect with friends, clients and make many new acquaintances.

Social Media Marketing World Audience

Audience for “Integrating Blogging with Content Marketing to Inspire Action”

This week was the start of a 6 speaking event extravaganza over the next 30 days or so and what a kickoff. The inaugural Social Media Marketing World in San Diego put on by Mike Stelzner and the team at Social Media Examiner was nothing less than impressive.

When Mike told me about the event last year, I had no hesitation about saying yes. What I didn’t know was what kind of experience it would be.

With a very California warm and fuzzy feel, the practical SMMW13 conference sessions were sandwiched with inspirational and engaging keynotes from:

  • Larry Benet “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”
  • Sally Hogshead “How to Fascinate With Your Social Media Messages”

SES Chicago 2011 Wrap-Up – Best #SESCHI Ever

Riverwalk Downtown Chicago - SESThis year was my 5th attending the SES conference in Chicago. While smaller than SES New York or SES San Francisco, the Chicago show serves a significant number of client side marketers, agencies and consultants in the Midwest and according to Incisive Media who run the event, attendance at this year’s SES Chicago was the best ever.

This was the first SES for our new Marketing Manger at TopRank, Ashley Zeckman, who stepped up to the plate and liveblogged the event for us. She did a great job and her posts were well received by Online Marketing Blog readers as well as other online publications that picked up her posts. Below is a summary of her blog posts, an embedded TopRank Online Marketing presentation on Social, SEO & Content Marketing, responses on Twitter and a few of my favorite photos from the event.
