Writing for Search Engines

“Writing for Search Engines” is a long standing session by Heather Lloyd-Martin and Jill Whalen. It’s a great session covering the basics of SEO friendly copywriting and a good primer for those new to SEO.

Search Engines are constantly improving their ability to sniff out the spam and de-value irrelevant links such as those from link farms. They are making the same kinds of improvements to the indexing, categorization and sorting of web pages in the search results.
In order to make it easier for search engines to do their job, it’s important to incorporate the keywords for which you wish to be found in your site content, title tags and meta descriptions. Now when people search for those keywords, there’s a greater likelihood that search engines will rank the web site higher than a competitor site who doesn’t have relevant keywords in the content and links of their site.

Minneapolis High Rankings Seminar
The High Rankings Seminar is going to be in Denver June 28 & 29. If you’re anywhere in that part of the country and want to get a good, hands on and practical guide to search engine optimization and paid search, the High Rankings seminar is a good fit.

When this event came to Minneapolis Jill asked me to do a session related to social media and other indirect ways to drive traffic to web sites. I had the opportunity to see Jill, Christine Churchill, Karon Thackston, Scottie Claiborne and Matt Bailey do a super job of engaging the audience with their hard won wisdom and answering very specific questions. I had another invite for Denver, but two events in one month are enough for me.

From back in the day, you might remember the Rank Write Roundtable that she published along with Heather Lloyd-Martin. Today, Jill is a regular speaker at Search Engine Strategies, writes many articles, publishes the High Rankings Advisor newsletter, runs her SEO consulting practice High Rankings and has another company called Search Creative.

Jill’s High Rankings Forum has been a source of information for newbies and old hands alike for many years. I don’t get to visit the forum as much, but when I do, I always find some useful insights.
