5 Tips You Should Be Leveraging for Event-Based Content Creation

Event-Based Content CreationCreating event-based content can be tricky. The room is full of extremely smart people. And they’re all talking. Loudly. You find a chair in front between two people you don’t know, but who smile and offer a handshake and a name. Looking around, everyone is working on a laptop. Or a smartphone. Or both.

A hush falls over the crowd. A speaker stands up at the microphone, offers an introduction, and launches into a mind-blowing presentation full of statistics, facts, tips and tools. There are dozens of keys being typed, tweets being sent, and people whispering.

And you have to make sure you catch it all.

Liveblogging Tips from #BlogChat

Lee Odden on Oct 31st, 2011     Blogging, Marketing PR Conferences, Online Marketing

Audience SES San Jose 2009 I’ve been liveblogging conferences since about 2005 ranging from ad:tech Chicago thanks to Steve Hall to a brief time working with Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable covering search marketing conferences. Since then TopRank has liveblogged nearly 100 events from SES Hong Kong to Intel’s first Social Media Summit.

When Mack Collier asked me to join #BlogChat to talk about liveblogging in anticipation of the upcoming BlogWorld Los Angeles conference, I had no hesitation. Liveblogging has helped TopRank Online Marketing and myself personally achieve numerous business and marketing goals at a fraction of the cost and far more effectively than many traditional marketing, advertising and content creation tactics.

Here are a few tips that will not only give you a tested and proven guideline but should improve your efficiency and quality of output.

Anyone that reads Online Marketing Blog from time to time knows we do a bit of conference blogging. In fact, during 2007 OMB covered 14 conferences involving nearly 100 blog posts, over 1500 photos and 20 videos. Besides the conference sessions and after hours coverage, we also typically conduct interviews before the events, as well as video interviews during conferences.

The efforts of the TopRank blogging team have enabled Online Marketing Blog to become the first blog to secure an official media sponsorship for just about all major search marketing conferences including: Search Engine Strategies, Search Marketing Expo, WebmasterWorld Pubcon, MediaPost Search Insider Summit and eMetrics Summit. OMB is also ranked by Advertising Age as one of the top marketing blogs on the web.
