SES New York – 3 Big Reasons to Go 360 Degrees with Your Online Marketing in 2013

Lee Odden on Mar 4th, 2013     Marketing PR Conferences, Online Marketing, Search Engine Strategies

SES New YorkSES New York is coming up in just a few weeks and I really can’t wait.  New York is easily one of my favorite cities in the world and I’m looking forward to joining thousands of marketers who feel the same March 25-28.

Today’s online marketing draws us in many directions and with the ever changing landscape of search, social media and technology, the demands on marketers to view their world from 360 degrees is more important now than ever.

At this year’s SES New York event, I’ll be giving a brand new presentation, Creative Content Marketing: Winning the Hearts, Minds and Wallets of Today’s Distracted Consumer on Thursday March 28th at 9:30am, which digs down into why, for who and how of tapping into ongoing creative ideas for content marketing that actually works.

Google Bringing You Down? Tips for Avoiding Duplicate Content & Multiple Site Issues – #SESNY

Ashley Zeckman on Mar 21st, 2012     Google, Search Engine Strategies, Search Engines

duplicate content and syndicationUnderstanding the way that search engines like Google and Bing crawl your sites for duplicate content is not always easy to follow.  What exactly are the rules, and what are the ramifications for not following the rules?

This presentation by a group of industry experts focused on gaining an understanding of how search engines read your content, as well as what steps you can take to avoid penalization for your content.

Peter van der Graff: Redirecting Duplicate Content

We always assume that Google knows best, but is that necessarily true?  According to Peter finding a formula that works 100% of the time is no easy task.  He opened up with a great example “If you have a 301 redirect and you tell Google to go left, they’ll probably go right.”  You could end up implementing a 301 redirect and when you request the location a cached version of the site may still appear instead of the redirect you intended.

Optimize

In one month my new book Optimize will be available on Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and many other booksellers on and offline. It’s been one heck of a journey so far and I’m really looking forward to sharing the key concepts and insights from the book with Search Marketing, Public Relations and Content Marketing professionals all over the world in the coming months.

So many people have reached out to me, unsolicited to offer help promoting the book, to review it and to have me speak at their event and I am truly amazed at what a super community we have with TopRank and our blog. The next few months will be an Optimize speaking extravaganza of sorts and I’m looking forward to meeting readers of our blog, fans, friends and followers on the social web and other likeminded “optimize and socialize” advocates for content marketing.

SESNY Keynote Interview: David Meerman Scott

Lee Odden on Mar 22nd, 2010     Interviews, Online Marketing, Social Media

David Meerman Scott is a best-selling author and popular keynote speaker on the topics of viral and online marketing as well as the convergence of web marketing, digital media and online PR. One of his most popular books, The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to use news releases, blogs, viral marketing and online media to reach buyers directly, was a real eye opener for a lot of companies trying to make sense of where blogs, press releases and search marketing fit together.

The second edition of The New Rules has recently been published and David will be keynoting the upcoming Search Engine Strategies conference in New York. I caught up with him just before SES and did a phone interview to get more insight into the new book, his insights into the emerging social media world including Twitter, Foursquare, Blogging and Content Marketing. I also asked him to share some practical advice for time management and how he stays current.

10 Reasons SES New York is a Must-Attend Marketing Conference

Lee Odden on Mar 18th, 2010     Marketing PR Conferences, Online Marketing, Search Engine Strategies

Let’s get it out of the way that Online Marketing Blog is a media sponsor for Search Engine Strategies conferences and also that I serve on the advisory board. In fact, the blog you’re reading right now was the very first blog to be recognized as a media sponsor by a major marketing industry conference. Specifically, Search Engine Strategies thanks to Matt McGowan.

As a long time speaker at SES New York in combination with our other involvement, you could say I have a pretty strong opinion of this event. Here are 10 reasons why I think SES New York is a “must attend” marketing conference:

Tips for Better Business Blogging – SES New York

Lee Odden on Mar 26th, 2009     Blogging

SES New York did pretty well  considering many conferences are feeling the effects of business budget cuts. Publisher and VP Matt McGown stated that over 5,000 people attended 2009 SES New York.

Social media often folds well into search marketing and blogging represents a great example of the intersection between creating optimized content and a platform for enabling customers to be social with companies.  Some businesses have started blogs only to see them lose steam and die. Others are fearful of starting blogs in case customers make negative comments.

My presentation for the Business Blogging session addresses both the common reasons business blogs fail and offers several tips for running a successful corporate blog, long term.
