Unfortunately I missed Day 1 of the SES conference but day two did provide a few opportunities for me to do a few short video interviews. Below you can get a glimpse from Bryan Eisenberg, Loren Baker and Dana Todd.

SES New York Day 2 Notes and Photos

Pummeled with work, I did not get down to the conference right away this morning. And no, it wasn’t for any of the reasons you might be thinking. I was in early last night – at least for New York. I did hear that some people were out til 5am though. That’s far too much fun for me.

I ran into so many great people on the way to the speaker room to register it took over an hour. Getting to the press room was no different (right next door). One of the great things about conferences is the networking. Although I didn’t think it was possible, networking can seriously get in the way of attending sessions.

Speaking of sessions, for play by play session coverage, be sure to read Search Engine Roundtable.

Vintage Tub and Bath Party SES New York

I arrived at the Hilton just in time to bump into Michael Gray and then Michael McDonald along with Rich Ord, the owener of iEntry, the parent to WebProNews. The first topic that came up of course, was the Vintage Tub and Bath party thrown by Allan Dick. This is an invite only kind of event and it is always enjoyable.

A big thank you goes to Allan, who is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

With the promise of a shuttle ride to the Manhattan Penthouse, where the party was to occur, I bumped into good pal Loren Baker of Search Engine Journal and along with Matt McGowan of Incisive and Marie Howell of Bruce Clay Europe, we made our way not to a shuttle, but to the Epiar party bus!

BOTW Does Blog Search

Yesterday at the New York Search Engine Strategies conference I ran into Brian Prince, CEO of Best of the Web (BOTW.org), who clearly have plenty of fans as evident from all the black, long sleeve t-shirts worn by conference attendees. In fact, they ran out the first day of the conference and had to get more.

A few months ago, BOTW.org launched a new blogs directory. Yesterday, they took the next step and added search to the directory. You can search by posts, tags or blogs.

I agree with Brian that the blog search engine problem really hasn’t been solved yet. Technorati and Google Blog Search are the two I use most, but the emphasis on recency as an indicator of relevancy muddles the search results. Plus there’s so much blog spam. To their credit, Technorati has released some new features recently, including favorites and a “relevancy” slider tool, which shows they are continuing to improve.
