Where to Learn About B2B Social Media, Influencer Content Marketing, Future of Digital PR & SEO

TopRank Speaking Events Q2 2014

During the first 3 months of 2014, I’ve had a great opportunity to connect with marketers from London to Las Vegas sharing best practices and learning what’s on the mind of the marketing and PR community.

Those experiences have helped me take the temperature of what marketers questions are so I can apply those insights in our consulting and for future presentations. Topics that seemed to be high in demand include working with influencers in combination with content marketing and social media.

As popular as content and social media marketing are in terms of increasing budgets and implementations, many marketers are still wondering about best practices and how to get the most from their investments. This was clear from all the questions and follow up engagement I received from recent events like ClickZ Live in New York and the Marketo Marketing Nation Summit in San Francisco.

Customer Empathy Plus Brand Leadership FTW at Social Brand Forum

integrated online marketing“Win More, Suck Less – How to Optimize Your Social, Search, & Content Marketing”

That’s the title of a presentation I’ll be giving today in Coralville, Iowa at Social Brand Forum a conference run by Nick Westergaard.

Other speakers include Jay Baer, Gini Dietrich, DJ Waldow, Marcus Sheridan, Laura Fitton and more.

The cool thing about my presentation title is, I didn’t decide what it would be. Our Facebook community did. I’ve also run a survey of our community to share their smarts in other ways. Some of that will end up in the presentation too.

That’s the beauty of social networks:  The ability to connect with a group of like minded people in an ongoing transfer of knowledge, ideas and feedback.

From Boston to Moscow: 7 Events Where You Can Learn To Optimize & Socialize Content Marketing

optimize socialize content marketingI don’t know about you, but to this day, I like a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Maybe it’s a childhood memory or maybe it’s just the combination of flavors and textures.  Since I’m a fan of the PB&J, I’ve done some experimenting with methods and ingredients. Bread is my least favorite part and the jelly is the most. So I’ve doused the bread with jelly and put just a dab of my favorite crunchy on. No good. Insanely thick bread? No good. Swaths of double crunch peanut butter? Still, no good.

You’re probably wondering why in the world I’m writing about PB&J and may have guessed that it’s a metaphor. I see so many marketers with all the core ingredients they need for success, and yet they gravitate towards that “one thing” like, content marketing (bread) or just social media (jelly), or stuck on SEO (peanut butter).  Doing that is simply no good.

The Future of Content on the Search and Social Web

Lee Odden on Aug 19th, 2013     Content Marketing, Marketing PR Conferences, Online Marketing

Future of ContentIf you had to bet your job on it, do you feel you could predict the future of content for your organization in the next 12 months? How about in the next 3 years?

The technologies behind the search and social web along with consumer behaviors are changing so fast, it’s a real challenge to anticipate with certainty what exact form content will take in the future. But one thing is certain, the importance of content for brands will be more important, more pervasive and decidedly more competitive.

So what questions can we answer about content over the next 1 to 3 years? I think one of the most important starting points is a consensus within your organization’s leadership as to what content really is, why it matters to customers and the role content will play in advancing business goals.

Marketers know content is important; in fact, 78% of CMOs think custom media represents the future of marketing. How has content changed how we view marketing today and more importantly, how can we prepare for the future? These highlights from The Future of Content with Lee Odden should shed some light on the issue:

Ask yourself 3 questions about your existing content strategy.

Odden instructed the audience to ask themselves three questions about their business:

Holistic Optimization Across the Sales Cycle: Optimize Speaking Events May & June

sales cycle optimizastion

When you have a business that relies on attracting new business online the sheer volume of options can be confusing. Should offline advertising efforts transfer to online? Maybe email marketing? What about SEO or the hot topic, social media? So much focus is placed on tactics and channels, that a lot of misplaced digital marketing budget gets wasted or spent inefficiently.

To bring some clarity to the myriad online marketing options available, I think it’s worth marketers taking a holistic approach that starts with an essential understanding of goals and customers. Who are your best customers? Who are your worst? What do your best customers care about? What are their pain points and goals? While you’re answering those key questions, think about how your solutions meet the needs of your target audience and what stories you can tell to bring align those interests to a common goal.

social media junctionIn a little over a week I’ll be giving the opening keynote at a social media conference in Auckland, New Zealand called Social Media Junction. The topic? The answer to one of the most common questions asked about social media:  “The Truth About Social Media ROI”.

New Zealanders aka “Kiwis” are an active bunch on the social web with more than 2 in 5 interacting with companies via social sites and 84% of mobile social networkers there having visited Facebook (Nielsen). The social media momentum is growing and companies are hungry for information and perspective.

I’ll follow up the keynote presentation with a workshop, aka Masterclass Programme, the following day focused on Social Media Content Strategy that drills down into the mechanics of social media marketing, content marketing and SEO.  Here’s a bit of a preview on what I’ll be presenting in the workshop:
