Optimize FeedBurner Emails

Lee Odden     Blogging Strategy

One nice option that FeedBurner offers is the ability to send out blog updates via email. This is a vital option as there are many more people that understand email but don’t understand feeds.

Just turning on email subscriptions is a good start. Customizing the email that goes out is even better. FeedBurner allows you to edit the subject, fonts, sizes, colors, message and add your own logo. There are really only a few options, but you can better brand your emails with the options available.

To customize your FeedBurner emails, log into your FeedBurner account and click on your feed. Then click on the Publicize tab and then Email Subscriptions in the left column. If this option is not activated, do so now.

Then, click on the Email Branding link. On the branding screen, you’ll have the option to change the following:

  1. Email Subject/Title – Work on the wording to encourage your visitors to open the email.
  2. Logo URL – This is where you get to put in a visual que to re-enforce your site’s identity. I’d highly suggest this for all.
  3. The other options there are fonts used, sizes and colors. I choose fonts that I like personally and matched link colors to the blue color in my logo.

FeedBurner Email Branding

The end result was an email that matched my sites look and feel a bit more than the default layout.

Branding your FeedBurner emails is just another way to help re-enforce your site’s identity to those that may not visit every day. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you’ll be done before you know it.

  1. The footer is much more legible now, Thomas. Good job.

Thanks for this little tutorial. Most of my email subscribers are via Feedblitz, where you have to pay to include your logo in their service. I recently changed to FeedBurner however and wasn’t aware you could add your logo.

    I’ve just done so.

  2. I am wondering how to put a link for comments at the end of the Feedburner email version of my blog. is this possible? I just have links for ‘Email this’, ‘Email the author’, ‘Share on Facebook’.

  3. Elspeth – This is a question for the FeedBurner people. It’s a great question, but I’m not sure the answer. Check out: http://groups.google.com/group/feedburner

  4. This is an article of great help, I was looking for how to optimise my feedburner account for the maximum benefit. I hope customising email option will help me in that direction.
