Fun Friday Online Marketing Links

Marketing Industry News, Online Marketing

It’s Friday and the end of the Holiday bump that seems to make things move slowly. There’s lots to look forward to in 2008 and while getting an early start today checking rmail, feeds, Twitter, Facebook, etc the following links stood out:

Success with social media is very much centered on building profiles and one online marketing channel where profiles have been important long before social media became the latest online marketing poster child is forums. Danielle Winfield brings a nicely illustrated post on this topic, Ins ands Outs of Forum Marketing.

Do you want a peek at some of the tools one of the smartest SEO / social media marketers uses? Then check out this very nice list of Firefox Extensions from Michael Gray.

Even after the holidays we get presents, like this excellent update post from Jeremiah Owyang: “A Complete List of the Many Forms of Web Marketing for 2008” which catalogs the many tools and tactics available for corporate web strategy for CMOs, VPs and Directors of Web and Marketing.

52 Ways to Get Link Equity – Can you ever have enough links? NO! Sergey Rusak offers many tried and true tactics with a few new tidbits like sending Shoemoney a t-shirt for a Friday link. LOL, if anyone wants to send me a Ballon Bleu de Cartier, I’ll give you a year of links. 🙂

And now for something different than our usual online marketing fare (but highly useful) HBR IdeaCast: Unleash Your Hidden Assets – Melinda Merino and Chris Zook via BNET, one of my favorite new sites.

Thanks Sergey, that’s the lowest price for a BallonBleu I’ve seen so far. I think I undervalued my offer. Unless of course, it’s the yellow gold version and not gold/steel. 🙂

I agree the Social media and formum marketing can be very successful. I find it a little time consuming though.
I have been discovering different ways to generate leads with a new marketing system that has been VERY successful.

Great tips on the forum marketing. I think it comes down to common sense, most online are like walking into a stranger’s dinner party – you don’t walk in the front door and start selling timeshares, you get to know the people around the table. You have to be patient, but the payoff can be extremely loyal customers that will evangelize your brand for you.

Forum marketing may not be as productive as in the past, but likely to be worth some effort to generate awareness, backlinks and traffic to one’s blog or website.

It would seem these days that social bookmarking, social networking and videos are becoming more and more important ways of traffic/lead generation. Youtube, Stumbleupon, Facebook, Multiply, etc. are fast becoming the “open” secrets of Internet Marketing.

To this effect, I would strongly recommend the FREE and value-overloaded online Internet Marketing School. For those willing to pay a small but affordable monthly subscription of USD20, the up-and-coming World Internet Academy portal offers superb step-by-step guidance on all the key foundational subjects of marketing online!
